Alaska Marriage License Update

For those of you that have decided to move forward with tying the knot in the next month or so (while practicing #socialdistancing of course), I thought I would go ahead and update you on how to proceed with applying for an Alaska marriage license during this #hunkerdown time in Anchorage. Since the Health Analytics & Vital Records office is closed to the public for walk-ins everything will be done by mail/fax.

If you already have applied for your marriage license through the Anchorage office, paid the $60 fee, and both parties have signed the application. You will need to send an email to ANCHBVS@alaska.gov and they can send your marriage license to you by mail. Make sure to include in your email, full names of both parties so that they can easily locate your application.

For NEW applications:

Mail your notarized application to the Anchorage office with copies of your IDs and the $60 fee by check or money order. Note: Personal checks must have your current address on it.
Your application will be processed and then your marriage license will be mailed to you.

For those of you who are asking the question, “Where do I find a notary?”

The UPS Store is a good place to start and they are still open as they are considered “essential.” I would definitely call first to make an appointment, to make sure a notary is working.

One more note, please be sure to check the Health Analytics & Vital Records website before proceeding with the above, as things are changing daily! Good luck and stay safe!
