Let’s talk Elopements and Petite Weddings!

Well, I am sorry to say, but this 2020 summer wedding season is turning out to be a bust! However, there is hope you if still want to get married. Yes, you may not get to have 100 of your closest friends and family there, and yes you will have to downsize to an elopement or a petite wedding (also known as a micro wedding but it sounds like a science project so I’m calling it petite 😉 ). And don’t worry, it will still be beautiful, I guarantee it! Let’s start by talking about the difference between an elopement and a petite wedding: An elopement is often used to…

Real Talk: To postpone, elope or cancel

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to bring up COVID – 19, but with Health Mandate 011 – Social Distancing now implemented in Anchorage and to be reevaluated on April 11th, and the nationwide Coronavirus guidelines extended to the end of April, I felt a conversation was needed for those getting married in the next couple of months. I guess we can classify this under “the ugly” with so many of my vendor friends having their events canceled, and my catering and restaurant friends having to close down, or limit their business to doing just to-go orders…it’s just heartbreaking any way you look at it. Luckily for me, I haven’t…

    Alaska Marriage License Update

For those of you that have decided to move forward with tying the knot in the next month or so (while practicing #socialdistancing of course), I thought I would go ahead and update you on how to proceed with applying for an Alaska marriage license during this #hunkerdown time in Anchorage. Since the Health Analytics & Vital Records office is closed to the public for walk-ins everything will be done by mail/fax. If you already have applied for your marriage license through the Anchorage office, paid the $60 fee, and both parties have signed the application. You will need to send an email to ANCHBVS@alaska.gov and they can send your…

    Melissa|Chris – Married!

Just like every wedding day, there is always a story to tell. The photographer tells your story through the moments captured by their camera. Erica Rose did a beautiful job capturing this love story…the love story of Melissa & Chris’s wedding day! It was December 31, 2019, and the temperature outside was almost 40 degrees which is a little unheard of here in Anchorage. We had a late winter and if I recall, summer was a bit strange too, with temperatures hitting the 90’s in some areas. Thank you global warming! Melissa and Chris’s wedding was to take place on January 4, 2020, in Girdwood, Alaska. Melissa had always dreamed…

For the Love of Books – A Library Styled Shoot!

So, if you read my diary entry about my last styled shoot that took place in the Fall, you know that I made damn sure this time around I wasn’t going to make the same mistake and get the date wrong! LOL! This romantic shoot took place in January at the ZJ Loussac Library in Midtown. Orainda (Orainda’s Bridal Boutique), Sharon (Elegante Light Photography), and I started talking about collaborating back in October. We were trying to find the right spot to showcase a new venue that also allowed us to capture that vibe of romance and simplicity. No loud or bright colors, or anything boho or rustic. We wanted…

Click, Click, Click…A Fall Styled Shoot

Oh, styled shoots, you’ve got to love them, but I kinda hate them too! LOL! The competition is so fierce these days with everyone doing styled shoots that I get stressed. I guess there’s so much pressure to make something look “pretty,” they can also be quite pricey, and if you are all not on the same page with the vision, it can be a bust! But when I got an email from Chelsa with Chelsea J. Photography about possibly collaborating on a styled shoot, I jumped at the chance! Because one, I love her work, and two, I haven’t had the chance to work with her. And there was…

    Lorell’s Favorite Things 2019

If Oprah can have a “Favorite Things 2019” list, so can I! I’m recapping some of my favorite things, ideas, and moments from my 2019 weddings. Brianna and Clay came from South Carolina to elope in Alaska. This beautiful picture of Brianna’s late mother was held by her sister during the ceremony. What a beautiful way to honor her late mother and include her in the ceremony. Brianna’s Tiffany Blue Hunter Boots were everything! One of the Bride’s closest friends baked this homemade wedding cheesecake for Mercedes and Jay. It was made with LOVE! Guests had cheesecake for dessert and this beauty got to go home with the newlyweds! We…

    After Wedding Photos

Getting photos back from a wedding are like Christmas morning for wedding planners! So, when I got my hands on Heather and John’s wedding photos from July, I was ecstatic, to say the least. I knew they were going to be ahhh-mazing because the wedding and the couple were just gorgeous, to begin with!  To my surprise, there was a little something extra in this batch…after wedding photos. What are after wedding photos? Exactly as it sounds, photos taken the day or days after your wedding. Whenever I have had couples do a photoshoot after their wedding they have turned out gorgeous, and it just brings a different element to…

One of the best Thank You’s ever!

I remember that exact moment in 2016 when she “popped the question!” We were at Kaladi Brothers having our usual wedding pre-planning meeting…”As a thank you, would you like to go on a helicopter ride with Turner and me?” Um, yeah, do birds fly??? And that’s how it happened. But life also happens, and years went by, and then out of the blue, I got a call. “Hey Lorell, it’s Audry!” It hit me by surprise because for the first 20 seconds or so, I had no idea who I was talking to! She explained that she was now 8 months pregnant, and wanted to do a maternity shoot on…
